The CH26 dining chair by Hans J. Wegner finally came to life in 2016. The chair is the reimagined version of a design Wegner had made for Carl Hansen & Søn in 1950.
The CH26 dining chair by Hans J. Wegner was developed by Carl Hansen & Søn in close collaboration with the Hans J. Wegner Studio and in exact accordance with Wegner’s original, hand-drawn sketches. The chair is one part of a series of legendary chairs Wegner produced exclusively for Carl Hansen & Søn. The first of this series was the CH22, a wooden lounge chair – Wegner also created a blueprint for translating the lounge chair’s form into a dining chair, the CH26. Yet, he never actually manufactured or produced a mock-up of the design and it remained undiscovered for decades. In 2016, Carl Hansen & Søn brought the CH22 and CH26 designs to life. The CH26 dining chair closely resembles the lounge version with its organic shapes, bold back, light-colored wood and woven seat, and features proportions ideal for longer periods of sitting at a dining table or a desk.
